Mermaids

Beauty from Bedding

An unfortunate rip in an expensive high count white fitted sheet has been a source of creativity. Two embroidered tops.

Shirty Birds

Garment Construction

The sparrow shirt uses an old border stencil for some of the embroidery

The navy thread on the navy material was challenging.

The same pattern in this lovely fine cotton.  It’s totally hand stitched. Modelled by ‘Dotty Dorris’ (my model).  Cuffs, collar and buttons are in the small floral Liberty print.  I made a pair of shorts with the rest of my half meter.

These are all hand embroidered.

I enjoyed adding curved sections to the front of the firecrest blouse and matching the flow of the Liberty prints from the colour to the tonal version.
This was quite tricky as the size if the print varied slightly across the two versions. Not complaining – always up for a challenge and loved the result!

The swallowtail and caterpillar were inspired from realising that they were the same species. This should have been obvious as I photographed then in the same place!

The wren uses a Liberty print called ‘zoo’ which I love. This garment is completely hand stitched.

Robin Red Breast?

Matching the colours I have noticed that robins are orange not red.

More Garments

This top is embellished with embroidered roses rather than using buttons as the pattern suggested.
At least the roses won’t catch in hair!

Here’s the latest embroidery for a garment.
The blue washable marker will be rinsed away to leave the bright daisy, hibiscus and insect design.

This collar is made from a piece of cotton lawn. A washout blue pen was used to mark out mirror image lines along which the flowers were embroidered.
Flowers inspired from pansies, daisies, thistles, roses, blue bells, lanterns, prickly pears, mesembryanthemums, sweet peas and more.
The threads colour palette was selected to blend with the print. Being away from a sewing machine or iron, the garment was hand sewn. No mean feat double sewing each seam into French seams for neatness!
